Be Clam And Call The Doctor
The more I think about the Doctor as a female the more I start to understand the controversy round Star Trek Discovery. We got a female lead, that firstly no one really been happy about, and now the more I think about Discovery the more open minded I am. Not about the female lead, no! That was always something that for me felt simple and natural. I wouldn't be able to imagine Voyager without Kate Mulgrew as a commanding officer, or having the ships computer as a male... I believe it's time for a female Doctor and I'm curious to see where her adventure will take us! :) So Discovery being a different Star Trek show will certainly change the course of the franchise, but now I will wait for it with open arms. :)
Farewell to Capaldi
As promised, here I am with my "longer" Doctor Who episode review. Although before I go into the review I feel to react on the comments that I received over the last few days for my quick reaction video on my channel. Overall I've got some very nice and positive feedback from a lot of people, but seems like I've touched on grounds where I'm not really "experienced." I have to admit, my attachment for the show is quite fresh. I've started to watch it about 3 years ago, and like lot of us in my age, I've started with New Who. As a fresh and new fan, the show opened a whole new world for me and thanks for all those wonderful episodes, Doctors, and references, I've finally reached the time when I can safely dive myself into the beginning of the phenomenon. And I'm planning to do that so. Same as with the Original Star Trek, I watched it when I finished with all the others... and I have never the less disregarded any episode, any point from the classic series. So formally, I would like to apologise to my viewers if I was too enthusiastic about my this episode, but it was just something that after Season 8-9 was such a refreshing experience to watch. I do respect everyone's opinion on the show and I accept the critic too. :) So let's jump into the review, watch out, spoilers ahead. :)
The episode called The Pilot and however it was a duality. It was called the pilot as the show was formally started again, but also we had the pilot for that "clever puddle." Well, that "clever puddle" wanted to get back together with the ship and they were looking for a Pilot, so it was sort of funny as we got a second meaning for the episode. The story starts with The Doctor as a teacher in the university. I love the way how he's teaching... gosh, Capaldi would have made a really good teacher anywhere. :) And we have Bill, the he girl who serves chips in the canteen and unintentionally fattens her crush... she is one of a kind. :) She meets Heather who had a contact with that "clever puddle" and she transformed into that engine liquid. So she still finds her as a crush, but she sort of not at all that person any more. Than the chase begins through time and space when the Doctor try to run out this "puddle creature," but finally realises it was just looking for Bill. When Bill finally let her go, they returned to the University. The Doctor attempts a "memory wipe" on Bill, but she pointed out it would have heart him in the same situation... than Clara came in as memory.... hopefully for the last time! :/ The Doctor had a little "argument" with Susan, River and with the Tardis... but finally he invites Bill on board and the journey begins.
If I would have to choose - and again, from the New Who era - I think as a favourite Doctor would be somewhere between 10/11 at the first place, than 12 and finally 9th. Now, Capaldi's Doctor for me was always the odd one. I loved his version of the time lord in season 9, but I overly annoyed with Clara as she took over the whole story from him. Season 8 was just a bit of a learning curve, although I had good fun watching Flatline. :) In here Capaldi finally got his best as our favourite Timelord. I loved how funny he was, how silly and at some point how serious as well. The interaction between him and Nardol was more or less was like "brotherhood!" Either way, it had it's really good fusion. His connection with Bill was amazing s well. I specially like the fact as when he wanted to delete her memories about what happened and Bil said "Just imagine if someone does the same thing with you..." Now that was the scene when the Doctor realised Clara have done the same thing with him. He still remember to Clara, bur he doesn't know why. I've found quite touching seeing the first "companion" Susan and the "last one," River Song in his desk. Sort of the beginning and the end. Not to mention the sonic screwdrivers that just looked amazing in one bunch. :) Seems like the Doctor also made a promise that we have to wait to find out what and who is that for...
Bill, The New Companion
As I've said in my reaction video I've fell in love with Bill. She is just amazing. At one point she felt like Donna Noble and Amy Pond with a touch of Martha Jones. Like having the best of 2-3 different characters in her personality and also her own self... now that's a bit timey-wimey I know. :) But I loved her, I still do and she is a fantastic companion. Totally refreshing to see her interacting with the Doctor, and she even brings out a new enthusiasm from him. The Doctor was mourning Clara for such a long time and finally he can move on. The fact as she is an openly gay character is not a problem at all. Apart from Captain jack, there wasn't anyone I remember who was open about their sexuality. It's the 21st century, she is adorable and she is just simply amazing! :) I really liked as they went into her life with those pictures that she received from her foster-mum - who I've found very narcissistic - and even that little reflection in the mirror that clearly indicates the Doctor's involvement on her life. Well, I think it was just pure curiosity. 11 travelled back to the time when Clara was a little girl, so I'm not surprised on this. Although I'm curious if she will ask this from her at all at one point? Overall the character is just such a delight, finally a no Clara Oswald, and the Doctor seems happier than before. :)
The first time when we saw Nardol, it was in the Christmas special back in 2015 with the episode called The Husbands of River Song. Now he was a little bit like Mr. Bean, only he was talking. :) In that episode he got his head detached from his body... and the last episode he's got back together. Now here we finally understood he's got a robotic body where the Doctor attached his head back. I liked how he's a sort of "assistant" for the Doctor. He works really well in the series and I'm looking forward to see all free in the screen more. :)
Coming Soon Bits
Now obviously at the end of the episode we've got so much clue and bits for the new season. Missy is coming back, there will be Daleks, classic Cyberman, and even John Simm's Master! Everyone talked about a multiple Doctor story, but a multiple Master has never been performed before. I'm really curious how the Master and Missy will interact in the screen.
Personally I really enjoyed the episode, I love the new companion, the series feels fresh and new. It has the perfect balance between serious and funny! An ideal Doctor Who story... at least for me. :) As I've done it with the first episode I'm going to do my second quick reaction on the new episode this Saturday evening as well and a similar "longer review" of the story here, in the website. Hopefully I will be able to do this till the end of the show, but the video reviews might going to change at one point due to upcoming holidays. Please don't forget to visit the website in a regular basis as articles like this coming out every week in different topics. Till than please don't forget to share your opinion of the first episode on the new seasn in the comment section below. :) _\\//
And here we are at last! Just finished watching the first episode of the new series and it totally felt new, it felt amazing and I will just miss the whole show when it will be over. I know it's a bit sad to start with this, but hey, I'm a special sort of weirdo! :) I really loved the first episode and I really loved the new companion, the story... was just a big WOW! :D I've done my little recap as I've promised and the full review will be available on the website soon as I have time to write my thoughts down. :) I'm really looking forward to the next episode next week and to share my opinion about the show with all of you guys.
If you've seen the episode already please let me know your thoughts about it in the comment section below and don't forget to follow me on my youtube channel as well, where I will release all the quick reactions, shortly after the episode. :) _\\//
Doctor Who is finally back in the air in Saturday night and I can't wait to watch the pilot episode, which funny enough called the Pilot! :) Since last week BBC released a lot of interesting clips and behind the scene videos from the new season and some of them for me feels like, this will be so far the BEST of Capaldi's Doctor! The show feels fresh, new and sexy from the trailers and from those clips. I've got more goosebumps than watching the new trailer for Star Wars - The Last Jedi. Anyway, I'm super Who-scited - no it's, not an actual word, I'm just taking the mickey - and I can't wait to see it. Right after the episode I will do a special quick recap on my channel, just generally talking about the episode in a few minutes, nothing fancy, but hopefully you will enjoy it! :) I cannot guarantee if I will be spoiler free, but I'll do my best. :)
As a fan of the show I try to express my love in the website and in my other social channels as well. I remember the first time when I watched Doctor Who and it stole my heart. Cpaladi was phenomenal since the beginning, I'm just a tiny bit sad as the whole Clara story faded him out a little bit. But he's back now and he's in the focus where he belongs. :) I'm super eager to see the episode in Saturday night and do the quick review every week. Please stay tuned on the channel for the quick reviews and for the website as well, as I try to do a longer review of each episode. :) _\\//
Ohh, that box. It's big and little at the same time. It's ancient, and brand new, and the bluest... blue... ever. Off course it's the Tardis, and our beloved alien, the Doctor! Sadly it's Peter Capaldi's last season as the Timelord. While it's sad and true, he will be here for another fantastic 13 episode and possibly for some feature epsiode as well. So there's still a lot of time for him to make an impact before he regenerates into someone else.
What Will I Do?
I'm not really sure at the moment if I'm going to make episode reactions on the channel or I will keep Doctor Who here in the website, but maybe few of you will request the videos instead of the written reaction... but Who know, I might do both of them. :) If you would like me to do videos instead of the written articles than please let me know in teh comment section below. :) So when we will be close to the air date there will be more discussions and articles about Doctor Who and the new season... I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not at the same time... I'm going to miss 12. :( _\\//
The new season will air in the 15th of April according to his interview that I can't wait to see and at the same time... wish it could be later. Just don't want him to go... :/ _\\//
The Doctor Who fandon is just as big as the world of Star Trek. And when it comes to Comic Con, there's always a chance you can run into someone who dressed as the 10th, 11th or the 12th Doctor. But of course the creativity doesn't stop there as you can see people dreesing up as the Tardis or the Master itself. If it comes to cosplay I won't be able to think about anyone else than the Stephanie, aka the German Companion. I've had the honor to get a special interview with her where you can find out more about her love for Doctor Who.
Hello Stephanie, it's really good to have you here. Please tell us what is your first memory about Doctor Who?
Since when you consider yourself fan of the show?
In 1989/90 the 7th Doctor’s episodes were broadcast. But I don’t think I’ve watched all of the episodes back then, maybe a few. But I definitely watched the special “The Five Doctors” in 1995 and found it utterly confusing. The adventures of Doctors 1-5 have never been shown in Germany and the Germans were unaware of the concept of regeneration. So who the heck were all those chaps claiming to be the Doctor? I only remember that I recognized Peter Davison, because I loved him in the role of Tristan Farnon in All Creatures Great And Small (still do). After that I forgot about the Doctor. Until 2008. That was when Doctor Who returned to the German television screens. But the time slot they’ve chosen was very unlucky: Sundays, early afternoon. So they cancelled Doctor Who after only two series because the audience rating was so poor. But I consider myself as a fan of the show since then. That’s when I started buying Doctor Who DVDs and Doctor Who books. And I started collecting merch (everything imported from the UK). By now I own more than 80 action figures and lots of Doctor Who related stuff.
What was the first Doctor Who story that you ever seen?
The first Doctor Who story I have ever seen must have been a 7th Doctor’s one. But I can’t really remember (I was 11 back then). But I’ve watched new Who right from the beginning. I remember very well watching “Rose” together with my son (at that time he was 9 and we were both instantly hooked).
What made you do Doctor Who cosplay?
Do you have any favourite character that you cosplayed or you like to cosplay in the future?
What would you say is the best and the hardest part of cosplaying?
According to your instagram feed you love the classic Who era. What do you think about new WHO? Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, Capaldi...
New Who brought Doctor Who back into my life. Without Eccleston I would have forgotten about the Doctor. I adored the 9th Doctor and I remember how shocked I was when he regenerated. I thought I could never get used to Tennant. But he did his job well and of course it didn’t take long until I loved him too. I went through the same process for Smith’s and Capaldi’s Doctor. The stories in new Who are sometimes a bit complicated. Long story arcs expanding over several episodes make me spend too much time trying to solve a puzzle instead of simply enjoying the show. For me a good Doctor Who story needs a threat (something alien scary) and the Doctor who’s going to fix it somehow. That’s it. Maybe that’s why I love the classic Who stories so much. But I’m still excited to watch every new episode. I think Capaldi is an excellent Doctor. Can’t wait for series 10.
Any future cosplay plan?
If you could run away with the Tardis, which Doctor you would like to be your guidance and what would you visit?
But if I really was to choose I’d run away with (oh, I can’t help myself) the 5th Doctor. We’d visit an earth colony on a distant planet in the far future, where humans and some alien races are living peacefully together (well, that’s what it looks like at first sight). I just hope I’ll have a nice death.
Stephanie, it was a really nice to get to know you more and your love about the Doctor Who franchise.
If you haven't checked out Stephanie's work as a Doctor Who fan, please go to instagram search for the @germancompanion where you can find all the wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey cosplay ideas. She built up a fantastic portfolio and a true fan page. I wish her many more fun moments watching and cosplaying the Doctor. :)

I would like to extend my thank you for Stephanie aka the German Companion. She took the time to share her enthusiasm about the Doctor Who franchise. I truly wish all the best for her, many more cosplay ideas and all the spacey-wacey adventures to come. :) _\\//
I know this is a tiny bit late, but here we are at last. Well, nothing is really late when we talking about Doctor Who, our favourite time traveller. :) In his latest adventure he's in New York where he's after some strange reading with Nardol... But what does Nardol does there? His head been chopped off last time... let's find out.
The Story I Liked
In the recent years the xmas special always been connected to a theme. Since the 11th Doctor we had a Christmas Carol adaptation, a story about Frosty the (clever) Smowman, a Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe story, not to mention the Santa Clause theme. This year we got a superhero. :) Personally I really liked the story. Obviously the creative group said this gonna connect the Doctor with a Superhero, and Steven Moffat had a stronger connection to the Superman franchise. I do love DC, more of a DC guy though than Marvel, but that's another story. :) Creating a situation in the Whoniverse, where you can have a superhero is something that not really happened before. The story itself was funny as long as you were able to "keep an open mind" as the Doctor said. :) Character wise I really liked Nardol, he suddenly became more involved and more active in this episode, that really worked. :) He proved to be a better companion actually and he certainly colors the picture. :) The aliens were a tiny bit scary... so they removed the brais from the original bodys, but there heads were empty... bit interesting. Seeing the Doctor under pressure was also a big treat! Remember the scene when the spaceship was about to crash? He was laughing and was doing the unexpected. Good old Doctor. :) So overall I really liked the episode. :)
Superhero in the Whoniverse
As I stated before I grew up watching more Superman, Batman movies than Spiderman or Hulk. I do like some of the Marvel creation, but they aren't my favourite. :) Having a superhero (who technically was Superman/Clark Kent) was interesting. Basically the Doctor gives this little kid a gem stone that he swallows, thinking that's a pill for cold and he became a person with super powers. I especially enjoyed the fact as the story reached the growth of Grant. The diferent stages and the different problems that came with the superpowers... like seeing through clothing and levitation when he gets excited. Something that we didn't really get to see in Superman before. And we have our Lois Lane as well, and she works as a reporter. Our Grant although only works as a baby-sitter. Well, it was a bit ironic, but at the end I realized something really important here. He was the superhero that we all want to be. If you think about the our human nature, we want to be special, we want to be famous... come on, these things are s in most of our checklist. But the real superhero is really the person who can keep a family together, who can make you feel great when you go home. Lucy really realized this at the end of the episode when he put the glas back to Grant and she said: "This is the superhero that I was looking for!" - referring to him as an "ordinary man".
So we can dismiss, or welcome this Xmas special, but if we "keep an open mind" the very basic of this story to appreciate the kind of basic human connection behind it. Overall we have our beloved Doctor, who also had a really emotional scene at the end, where he's talking about the endings and they are sad. I did make me drop a few tears... :'( We had a Superhero touch and aliens who failed to take over the earth... as usual. :) I'm too kind to talk about the negative things about this episode - if there were any - so I'm going to give a 9/10 for this episode. :) Please don't hold your breath back, and use the comment section below to share your opinion about the Xmas Special. :) LLAP _\\//
The Doctor is certainly coming back to BCC for this Christmas and we can't wait to see what the "old man" will do this time. Well... we did get a small sneak peek from his latest adventure on BBC Children in Need and I did watch it a few times...
Capaldi Is Still Funny
Ok, this is not an issue of course. Peter Capaldi is still doing those roots that he developed during the years of playing the Doctor. In this sneak peek he starts of spying on a building while eating sushi! interesting choice. :) And facing to be killed by a bad guy he just turns around and playing the fool. Again, brilliant as always! :)
Ghost the Superhero
The Sneak Peek itself...
It's a funny little scene overall, but I would have gone for something better. I's definitely not giving away too much. So far we have a secret vault where they keeping brains, then a map with pins supposedly marking cities with something dangerous, and a superhero. Looking quite interesting so far...
Did you like or dislike the little peek? Are you still looking forward to this special? How do you feel about the superhero? Let me know in the comment section below. :) LLAP _\\//
I’m a geek… and I think that’s quite obvious if you follow me through this website and social media. :) I always tried to do something different every time, and as long as I went to vacation I thought, let’s make a difference this time. Every person takes picture on location from the same objects, same landscapes, from the same angle as they saw in the tour guide. Well I do that as well, just for reference. :) No problem with that right? Although when I was about to pack my stuff to Barcelona I remembered The Doctor wanted to take Rose Tyler to Planet Barcelona. What an idea. :) I have a small Tardis – alongside the 9 inch version one – and if I bring it along I could make that story actually happen. So that’s what I did. :)
Although as I’ve visited Portugal, more specifically Lisbon, I took the Doctor along with his Tardis to see some of the hidden gems of the city. :) I had real fun with this project and I think the pictures are really good to prove this.
These are just few of the amazing pictures what I’ve happened to take during my travel. If you interested about more, please check out my Instagram account where I published much more travel pictures featuring the Tardis.
