And we are back with another interview! This time we have another special guest with us, Nick from the very popular YouTube channel Ketwolski, bringing you clarity into the world of Trek as we know it. He's an awesome person with a great sense of humour that he channels though his work. I've recently had the honour to "sit down" with Nick and discuss his connection with Star Trek in this special interview!
What is your first memory about Star Trek? How long have you been a fan of the show?
I have been a Star Trek fan for as long as I can remember. Both Trek and Wars where a staple in the house growing up thanks to my dad’s love for both franchises. My brother and I were exposed to science fiction at very young ages to it really shaped who I became as an adult. My first memory of Star Trek would probably be watching the Voyage Home on VHS and just completely tearing down the tape over time. I re-watched over and over again.
How has your life changed since you discovered Star Trek?
Every aspect of my life has been changed because of my relationship with Star Trek. What I view about leadership, teamwork, and even temperament. My decision to join the Armed Services was also related to love of the show. It has indeed been very impactful.
Favorite series, movie, episode, captain, villain?
My favorite series would have to TNG. It was my first love and will always hold the number one spot in my heart. Favorite movie would be the motion picture; I have a soft spot for traditional science fiction films. Favorite episode…there’s just too many to list. But to keep with my favorite series, I will say “Family”. Favorite Captain would be Picard with my favorite villain probably being the Delphic Expanse. I know that’s not a person but what that region of space did to people in Enterprise was just brutal.
Any memorable encounter with a Star Trek actor/actress you met?
What made you create Ketwolski? What was the main inspiration for your channel?
Having a YouTube channel is something I have always wanted to do. I thought about it for years; imagining what it would look like, what I would talk about and what my topic of conversation would be. The main inspiration for the channel would just be my love for Star Trek In general. They always say to make a channel about something your passionate about, so after fiddling around for about year I finally hit my mark with Trek.
Which of your video is that you are the most proud of?
I usually hate all of the videos I upload; I am my own worst critic. But if I had to pick 1 specific video it would be my video about ‘Tone’ in Star Trek discovery. I spent months working on that idea and putting it all together and I think folks really enjoyed it.
If you could choose to have a guest on your show, who would that be?
As a fan, Sir Patrick Stewart. As a YouTuber, Alex Kurtzman.
What do you think of the current state of Star Trek?
Despite what you might read about on the internet, I think Star Trek has just reached a whole new golden age. And I cant wait to experience it!
As a Trekkie/Trekker I assume you own a few memorabilia. Which one of them you the most proud of?
When I was moving out of my dad’s house I was given a bunch different little sci-fi knick-knacks. In that group was a copy of the original Klingon dictionary. I never used it, but it’s very dear to me because it was passed down as a legacy gift.
Apart from Star Trek which other sci-fi shows that you like and why?
I love Stargate SG-1. Probably because it was so similar in style and tone to that of TNG!
If you would be able to live in a world of Star Trek, what would you do and who would you be?
I would want to be a captain of a Starship; not in Starfleet but someone out there doing deep space trading and exploration. Just living life to the fullest with a crew as a family.
And a tricky one for the end... what does Star Trek mean to you?
I would love to extend my special thank you towards Nick who participated to this interview. I'm really honoured that I can call him as a friend. He's a faithful Trekkie, a brilliant content creator and simply an amazing person who brings us the real deal every time with his professionalism.
