They analize ships; they bring us interviews with designers; they reacts on news; and they have an enormous passion towards Star Trek. Yes, they are the Trekyard guys! :) In this weeks interview I proudly present to all of you, Captain Stuart Foley. He is a passionate Star Trek (and also Transformers) fan, the host of the youtube webseries "Trekyards" with Samuel.  Find out more about him in our exclusive interview.

What is your first memory about Star Trek?

My first memories of Star Trek are from my oldest brother Steve actually. He had a huge Star Trek mural painted on one whole wall in his bedroom. Which I loved. Some great paintings of the Enterprise and other ships (especially the really cool Romulan Bird of Prey). Sadly no pictures remain of the mural. But it was my brother that really introduced me to the show.

How long have you been a fan of the show?

The entire 43 years of my life.

How has your life changed since you discovered Star Trek?

As I stated it's been with me my entire life. It made me the man I am today. I can't imagine a life without Star Trek. I use to watch the old VHS of the movies over and over again and build little LEGO ships. The ships were always my favorites.

Favorite series, movie, episode, captain, villain?

Favorite series would probably be TOS. But that being said, in recent years it has sort of shifted to Deep Space Nine. Favorite movie is Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, followed closely by Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock, and finally Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country. I consider Star Trek 2,3, and 4 all one movie to be honest. The true Trek trilogy if you will. LOL. If I could only watch 3 movies for the rest of my life it would be those ones. Favorite episode. Wow. Ummm... so many.  Trick question actually.  Probably over all the series of Trek I'd say the DS9 episode "In The Pale Moonlight", but there are so many more. I feel like a lost is in order.

Any memorable encounter with a Star Trek actor/actress you met ?

Yes, Chase Masterson (Leeta from DS9) in 2013 at the Star Trek Las Vegas convention. My wife and I were getting married the week we were there (in a helicopter above the strip at night), and she gave us her latest Jazz CD signed and personalized as an early wedding present (all free of charge of course). It was amazing. She is an incredible person.

A lot of us watched you two having a discussion with many "behind the scene" person from the Trek family, but organizing these episodes must be a hard work! What do you think is the biggest challange making those episodes?

Generally the hardest part about filming with some of the designers like Doug Drexler, Rick Sternbach or John Eaves is arranging a time to Skype with them. Mainly because Samuel is located in the U.K. I am in London, Ontario and they are all located in LA or other areas in the states. So coordinating 3 time zones to make an ideal time to film can be very difficult.  Samuel is 5 hours ahead of me and LA is 3 hours behind me.

Creating all of those 3D models for the show must be soo time and energy consuming. Is there a special person behind all of the graphic and animation over Trekyards?

Well Samuel does all of the animations and high detailed renders. But the models are made by some fantastic people that we ave helping is. People like Michael Wiley, Barry Chapman and a few select others that do help in building these incredible 3D models that Samuel can then animate. We truly have a fantastic team bringing Trekyards to life.

You two love starships, but from all of the sci-fi franchise if you would have to pick one, what would be your favourite?

Hands down it's Star Trek for me.

As a YouTuber which of your videos are you the most proud of?

Picture
Hmmmm... again trick question.  There are a few that do stick out in my mind, as either myself or Samuel are very passionate about a few of the ships or topics we have covered. But that's like asking to pick your favorite child. We are proud of and love all of our content. I think I am most proud of the channel and Trekyards name itself being so recognized in the community and just knowing that we created that from nothing into what it is today.

Which part of your Star Trek collection are you the most proud of? Any dream collectible on your list?

For me I think I am most proud of my 350 TOS Enterprise that I built and lit myself. I always wanted a big Enterprise model and to have built it and added lighting all on my own makes it the best thing in my collection. Very proud of that. As for wish list....I would absolutely love a TOS captains chair with working lights and such!!

Apart from Star Trek which other sci-fi shows that you like?

Picture
Star Wars, Babylon 5, The Expanse, Transformers, G-Force, FireFly.  Again....the list just goes on and on.

If you would be able to live in a world of Star Trek, what would you do and who would you be?

Well I'd love the TNG time period so that I could play on the holodeck and create any situation or era I'd like. Best of all worlds there. And I would of course want to a Captain. Obviously. Geesh!   LOL.

And a tricky one for the end... what does Star Trek mean to you?

Star Trek to me means a hopeful future where people can get along and not argue about all the petty things that seem to hamper our day to day existence. It's a chance to explore and expand our minds, our thinking and our place in the universe. And really cool tech.  But as I stated earlier. I can't imagine my life without Trek. It's so ingrained into who I am.  To me Star Trek is life!!
