I know this is a bit late for a review like this as the movie itself is out for a while, but I watched it a few days ago I needed some time to process the things what i just saw there. But what time is better then now and here... stardate 2016.08.21. :) I'm not going to in deep details about the movie, this website and my idea of doing this creative writing is never been about getting the things to small pieces and examine every nanites from it. I think the reaction what causes on me after watching it it's more interesting to see. Well I guess it's the same when you review something, but in this case I would stick my own personal experience about the movie. ;)

The Cast

The fact it was way too many Star Trek actor was involved got hooked me up on this film. Seeing Walter Koenig, Tim Russ, Rober Picardo and the others is a real treat for a Star Trek fan. The stpry itself takes place after the Voyager arrived home, we can follow up with the life of Icheb and seeing him is quite interesting. The man who has been saved from the Borg now works as a member of Section 31 and he's still not happy with the fact as he has Borg parts on his body. Tuvok is a highly ranked Federation officer who has some connection with Section 31... maybe he is with Chekov the head of Section 31? Well, this doesn't really a fixed thing in the movie, but I guess the  organization will survive beyond this era. It existed before Enterprise, so I'm sure It will be around for a loong time. ;) I was surprised though about Khan's daugter Lexxa. As I remember Khan said itself his daugter and wife been killed by that parasite at Ceti Alpha V. How did she survive that? Maybe she's been taken away just before what happened with Ceti Alpha VI? This wasn't really explained, but maybe in the second movie. Louis Zimmerman has a lover... well, this is interesting as well. At the beginning I thought it's the EMH, but it wasn't. :)

Mr Tuvok as a head of Section 31? Is that logical?

The Story

Picture
So basically the Federation is under attack by an alien race which concentrating on destorying dilithium mining planets, and they are also looking for the Iconian device which is causing problems. So Starfleet gather together... well they been together already aboard the Starphip Icarus, which I personally didn't really like the design of. It's not really a Starfleet standard, but I guess it's doesn't matter as long as we are in a "space-spy-movie". It looked like an "unfinished" Prometheus class starship with it's four nacelles. :) The USS Archer at the other hand was a strong ship, I really like the design of that one. Quite like an Ambassador and a Sovereign together.  It's certainly an interesting design. Personally I think the story was good. Seeing the Federation from a different perspective it's interesting as always and I'm sure the team behind the show felt the same way as I did... excited and curious. It's an interesting theme as we all imagine Starfleet and the Federation as an idealistic place, but deep down I'm sure it has it's own problems what requires different solutions. Maybe that's where Bryan Fuller want to take Discovery as well... we will see.

What about the villain?

Picture
Well, the guy is not really a scary for me. He called Barrada as he wasn't the typical bad guy type character in my opinion. He's certainly doesn't know what he's dealing with and he's just looking for someone who he can blame for the problems what that device caused on his home planet 300 years ago. Not to mention the look of the race... at the beginning I genuienly thought they are from GalaxyQuest as the similarity between the two race is quite obvious. Well it's a vast universe, I can totally see them coming to this one. :)

My final thoughts...

Apart from the fact as the movie has some really big name behind the scenes I have to say I'm still a bit mixed. Obviously I loved it because of the actors who I grew up with - in a sense of watching them through years and years on the TV - is a big point in this case. The "look" of the movie implies a different era of the Federation what I can totally see happening as well. The Section 31 plot is also interesting, in my opinion is a must see for every Star Trek fan. As a fan production I still more like the way of how Star Trek Continues goes along and keeping the feel and the look of the original series. But not end this article with my words... let me know what do you think. ;)

Live long and prosper. _\\//
