Star Trek - Overloaded

After my horrible experience with Twitter last time I decided not to make further movements with that platform for a while. Getting all that spoilers, news and conversation is just very overwhelming. When the first season of Star Trek Discovery aired I was excited, but towards the premier a lot of new things been announced. As part of the community I do feel some responsibility to react and share my opinion, start a conversation between people, but sometimes it's just too much for my little brain. As a result I decided to boycott Twitter for a while and purely focus on sharing my thoughts here as I've been planning to do this more often, just as I explained this last time. So, without going into a deep discussion why I'm not making a video instead of this blog post, here's what is brewing currently in the Star Trek Universe.

Section 31 spinoff

Ok, so let's start with the big one... Mirror Georgiou get's a spinoff. Yeay.. or not? Michelle Yeoh's character became a fan favourite for sure. I do love her as Captain Georgiou, but as the Emperor... ehhh, just does not fit. I really wanted to see her more in Discovery and I was pretty shocked when they killed her off in the first episode, but having her mirror alter-ego roaming around in Section 31 uniform, just doesn't feel right to me. The new show does not have a lot of details yet, just simply that it will focus on her character and on Section 31. Not much to talk about at this point about this, although I do have to say that the idea can be promising if the execution is good. Back in the days the Section 31 was a really devious organisation, and I hope to explore that aspect of the Star Trek Universe, but maybe not as a separate TV show. An episode, or a movie maybe, but a whole series based on a really destructive organisation does not sell me that optimistic vision that Star Trek gave me for a long time.

Star Trek Discovery Season 2 Opener

CBS also released the latest opener for Discovery and surprise, surprise... it's different. The much I like the new look and the different take on the intro with Discovery, I really miss when we had those fantastic and gorgeous opening's for Deep Space Nine and Voyager, and even for Enterprise. Seeing Voyager passing through nebula's or the buzzing surrounding of Deep Space Nine indicated already that we are up for a nice ride in each episode. Not to undermine the production value and the thoughts that they put into the Discovery opening, but it feels like a "touch of history for ya" instead of what the show it is really. It's cool to see all those diagrams, props and the ship flying over the old parchment paper surface, but I miss the realism of it... maybe I just can't see it?!

Kurtzman "Authentically" a Trekkie

I don't mean to be disrespectful, and I really appreciate the guy that he try to correct the errors and faults of what his predecessors did so far with Discovery, but the statement that "authentic Trekkie" is a bit too much for me. Seems like we have to prove ourselves to be a Trekkie from now on? Are we not Trekkie enough if we don't pass a test or something? I should have my blood checked in hope that it's still green... :D
Overall I think the time we live in is fascinating as the one and only Mr Spock would say - yes, I'm thinking about Leonard here. :) We getting a lot of Star Trek after a long hiatus. We have Discovery, the Picard show is happening, Lower Decks is in development, and now we can look forward to a Section 31 spin-off as well. All of this within a few months... not bad CBS. I have to say thank you that you have me temporarily forget about Brexit and Trump, but the too many news happening after each other just feels very overwhelming as well. Sometimes I do feel that is great to disconnect from social media, just having your own thoughts and your own little bubble, even though I'm really excited to make a new video this week in celebration of Discovery Season 2 and also the new episode of The Orville. :) _\\//
