Star Trek Beyond... beyond expectation

Captain's Log! Stardate 24.04.2016. I couldn't skip this part... :) So, I've just arrived home from the cinema watching Star Trek Beyond for the first time! I was quite excited about the movie the last few weeks and when I went to the cinema tonight I was hoping that this movie will get back my faith of the "Kelvin timeline"... and IT DID! :) I had this feeling while I was watching the movie it's really goes back to the original series and now they really up for the adventure and they earned the respect of all of us. :)

The Characters

Picture
Without giving away major spoliers I have to say they've really done everything right. :) They said there will be plenty of character development and old time wit and banter between Spock and McCoy. Those scenes were really great and it felt like we are seeing those characters from the classic series. :) The character of Kirk became a much mature one. Well done for Chris Pine, he's getting there to become a really good Kirk for the alternative timeline. :) Scotty was adoreable as always and funny as hell. :) Spock had his own story and off course they mentioned the late Leonard Nimoy in the plot (this isn't a spoiler as we were all aware of this already before) and how does his loss effect "young" Spock. Uhura has got some attention as well in this movie, we saw her other side as well as a kind of "kick ass girl"! Chekov was great and funny with his russain accent and Anton gave the character something what we could call a "more grown up" attitude. A lot of people had a discussion about Sulu's gay side before... as I thought at the beginning they didn't push the subject anywhere. It was a really delicate way to show his orientation but keeping it discreet at the same time. And his commanding side as well... well done for the entire cast. :)

The Visual Effects

Visually speaking the movie was spectacular. The Enterprise was sexy as hell now. The pulled back warp nacelles, the impulse drive and the fact it has the saucer separation mode (ups, this might be a spolier) is an awesome feature. They really made her spectacular, but it's a bit sad it been destroyed (again, not spoiler as they gave this away in the trailer). The Yorktown had it's own charm what actually Bones mentioned in his old "grumpy" way. The starbase is really what we never seen before, technically advanced ahead of it's time. The USS Franklin... well, now that's a damn strong little ship. It had the reminiscence of an "old" friend from the prime timeline (NX01 Enterprise). I think if they will release a small modell that's definitelly gonna enrich to my collection. much better design than the USS Vengeance from Into Darkness.

They both look great!

References from TOS

In terms of references from the classic series they have done their job very well. I've noticed a few little thing what goes back to the original series, so those informations for the newbies might not say anything, but the "old timer trekkies" are certainly up for a treat. :) I've got touched few times during the movie and even dropped some tears... specially when there was a mention about Leonard Nimoy. 18 years of watching and loving something really makes some special connections. :) ...and off course seeing Anton playing as well who we tragically lost last month. It's still unbelievable and sad... and this is a SPOLIER incoming: they both have been mentioned at the end of the movie as "In loving memory of Leornard Nimoy" and "for Anton". Their life always be remembered now and beyond.

My final thoughts...

So my opinion of this movie is AMAZING! :) I rarely do this with movies, but this one is up for a second time in the big screen. :) I loved it and in a strange way on my way home I was thinking "why they didn't do this back than in 2009?" Things could have been much different by now. :) I just wish I can actually say them "well done" as they not just restored my faith of the Kelvin Timeline, but they made a really special memory for the original Star Trek series! :)
