Today is Star Wars Day. A franchise that has it's own beautiful and vast universe with villains and Jedi's, droids and amazing tech that captured the imagination of many and probably will continue to do that so in the far future. :) How do I feel about this as a Trekkie?
I've always been a Star Trek fan, and even though I have watched a few of the movies of Star Wars I consider myself a fan... but I have no memorabilia at home, not even a small one which is a shame considering that I really like the droids myself. I think as a fan of the Star Wars universe I was more the fan of the droids than anything else. The story is great, the characters are legendary, but the droids... R2D2 was always my favourite. A droid that just "beeps" and "boops" and many wakes up for it's sound in the morning as their alarm sound. Yeah, I was one of them occasional.
Star Wars has never really been captivate me to the level to become a massive fan who collects the same amount of merchandise as I do with Trek - and I'm getting less and less of a "collectionist" in this universe too - but I always enjoyed to go to places that had a Star Wars theme. I think it was in early 2017 when I happened to visit the Identities exhibition in London where I've got to learn many amazing things about the franchise and it has a somewhat compelling quality that I'm excited about. I think I can safely say that our culture will be weaker and less colourful without it.
I know by tradition I should have watched one of the movie tonight, but here I am, thinking about that one exhibition that I really enjoyed attending. Here's my tribute to Star Wars today in this video I've made about 3 years ago:
