"Doctor, I Let You Go!"

It's been a few days ever since we witnessed the regeneration of Peter Capaldi's Doctor Who. I have to admit I've got into Doctor Who about 3-4 years ago, and mainly the new Who era, but that does not mean I'm a regular viewer. Apart from being a Trekkie I consider myself a Whovian too - just like an Orvillian, but that's for another day. Certainly the latest adventure of or Time Lord was the saddest one of all. I'm not afraid to say out loud I did cry of half of the episode. The 12th Doctor grow a lot on me ever since I see him first appear in Deep Breath and he continued to be the Doctor I now consider my second favorite. But before I say goodbye to him let's have a look at the Christmas Special "Twice Upon A Time" in bit more in depth than my initial YouTube reaction.

Regenerate or Not?

The Story overall was great. Simple, but great. I had no issue with it really. I did watch quite a few reaction and review on social media to hear what the others liked and disliked about the episode to get a more clear picture. We started the story more or less the same way as we left it in the last episode. The Doctor in the frozen planet refused to change. It's a very interesting concept though that I think Steven Moffat nailed this in the story. I know I might gonna get some hate or disagreement after publicly saying this, but the reason behind the "to regenerate, or not?" is simply human. Matt Smith's said it in his last time on board the Tardis "We all change, if you think about it. We all different people, all through our life!" Change is an essential process for the Doctor, this keeps him alive allowing him to fight the good fight. I really loved what Nardol said in this episode "If you die, the universe will go cold!" Isn't that right? What would the universe, what would we do without the Doctor? Putting this aspects of his personality to this episode I think was a really great reflection on the character itself. He's been alive for more than 2000 years and he has gone through soo much... I think all of us would think twice if we would should keep doing this over and over again, or just give up. Let somebody else save the universe from now on, right?

"A Jolly Good Smack Bottom"

Capaldi obviously gave his best performance as always, but it was very good to David Bradley coming back as the first Doctor. I remember seeing him in the Adventure in Time and Space movie last year and God, he portrayed Hartnell perfectly. Him meeting his future self in this episode was absolutely stunning. I don't now that much about the classic 1st Doctor, but I think Bradley's performance was really authentic. A lot of people mentioned that his Doctor in this episode was sexist and show sign of bigotry. The more I think about that, the more I accept those claims. Although there's one thing that I think a lot of forget: the Doctor evolved a lot over the 2000 years. A perfect example for that when Capaldi's Doctor always had to remind his "younger" self to not to say or do things like he did. I'm sure that he's perfectly aware of himself, how he used to be. After all those years he became a new person - well, many new person to be exact. Just as ourselves we evolved from the very beginning. We all had different viewpoints on things that we believed it's right, but a few years later we see it from another perspective. All our lives changes every single minute, decisions being made, opinions being changed. Change is an essential process that we all have to face with, sometimes for the best, sometimes for the worst. In the case of our Doctor... well, he has a long journey front of him to become that enlightened man in 2500 years... more or less. :)

Some Old References

The episode being in last in it's own kind was full of references that I really enjoyed seeing and hearing. Hearing the multiple music themes all over the place from "The Doctor's Theme" from the 2005 series, the "Sounds of Derillium" from the episode "Husband of River Song" was just all perfectly fitted in their own way and place. Finding out about the Brigadier was also a really subtle surprise from the episode. And of course in his last speech he said "Never ever eat pears!" that absolutely comes back to the 10th Doctor silly scene from series 3. Rusty came back as well for a cameo that I really liked. :)

"Doctor, I Let You Go!"

The hardest part on this journey was really letting the Doctor go. As I've said before I really enjoyed Peter Capaldi's Doctor. He was a kind person, a great - and sometimes a bit dark - Time Lord. His performance was absolutely amazing and I can safely say he is my second favorite. I'm going to miss him from the the Tardis, so will his silly old attitude.  But the time has come and we have to let him go. It's still extremely difficult as he's been part off our life ever since and also made a big impact as well. Personally he's got me through a few rough period in my life, gave me power when I needed the most and also inspired me many times to be more complex, more creative and overall a better person. It's sad, really sad to see him go, but letting people go is also an essential part of our existence. Just as letting go people from our own family, letting go our first love, or simply let our old self go...
